Historic Monroe Station, Big Cypress National Preserve

DESCRIPTION

A 1920s two story wood frame structure originally used by police motorcycle patrolmen along Tamiami Trail.

Renovation and rehabilitation of historic Monroe Station. The existing wood frame building will moved to a new location closer to Tamiami Trail road and placed on a new concrete slab. Currently, the building's floor is an elevated wood floor on pilasters and the exterior walls are wood siding on studs. The wood frame will be preserved and strengthened with additional wood stud members and plywood sheathing to maintain the look of the original structure.

The final design of the site is a rest stop between Miami and Naples and for ATV and trailer vehicles for those who explore the wilderness of the swamp of Big Cypress National Perserve. This project client is National Park Service.
